COVID-Friendly Things to Do in Porter Square After Grabbing Thai Food
Summertime in Boston is usually crowded with thousands and thousands of college students, families, tourists, and visitors traveling in from all over the world. As one of the most historic cities in the United States that boasts some of the best food, sports teams, and attractions, there are a million reasons why people want to visit this beautiful city. However, this summer, things look a little different.
Due to COVID-19, which has drastically affected all parts of the world, there have been and still are many pandemic related closings in restaurants, museums, walking tours, and other city attractions. Although it definitely is a bummer, there is still plenty to do in Cambridge during this pandemic while staying safe.
Check out some COVID-friendly activities and things you can do in Porter Square after a mouthwatering meal at Sugar & Spice! You can still take advantage of good weather this summer and explore different sights and sounds in this stunning city. Just don’t forget to wear your face mask and always stay six feet apart!
1. Browse around the Sign of the Dove Gallery
Just a 2-minute walk from Sugar & Spice is the Sign of the Dove Gallery, a cooperative space boasting more than 45 years of history that showcases local artists’ work and contemporary fine crafts. Here, you can find a range of handcrafted items, including jewelry, glass, pottery, personal accessories, and home decor. Since they are currently only open on Wednesday through Saturday from 12 pm - 4 pm, this would be a perfect post-lunch activity!
2. Get your sweet tooth on at Honeycomb Creamery
Honeycomb Creamery is a small-batch ice cream parlor that makes ALL of their ice cream from scratch - something that only a handful of parlors across the country do. They pride themselves in using local dairy and ingredients to create all of their unique, seasonal flavors and delicious combinations.
With frequent menu changes, you’re always in for a surprise when you visit Honeycomb Creamery! Right now, they are serving up flavors like Black Sesame & Raspberry Jam, Coconut Zucchini Bread, Ube, and many more. Some of their previous specialty products include the Blueberry Crumb Taco, Horchata Crunch Tacos, and Lemon Raspberry Cakewiches. Pre-order your scoop of ice cream when you finish up your Thai meal with us, and then head on over to them for your special treat!
3. Take a stroll through the Harvard Yard
Did you know that taking a walk after eating enhances blood circulation and improves digestion? We know that’s something we all need after chowing down dish after dish of tasty Thai food! Go ahead and walk towards the Harvard Yard, which is about a 20 minute stroll on Mass Ave. You won’t get Harvard’s normal, busy summer scene of students, families, and tours milling about. However, the upside of this is the ample green space in the Yard where you can take a hundred photos without having any photo-bombers around!
Additionally, if you download a self-guided audio tour, you can learn all about Harvard’s history and evolution as you stroll through the Yard and admire the campus - all while staying six feet apart from other people.
4. Enjoy a bike ride along the Charles River
Biking is another fun outdoor activity you can do to work off all the calories from your delicious Thai meal. Stationed around Cambridge and Boston are tons of BlueBike docks where you can pay less than $3 for a 30 minute ride. This is our most recommended activity especially if you’re finishing up with dinner around 7 or 8 pm. Hop on a bike and breeze your way along the Charles River as you chase the most gorgeous sunset and soak in the view of Boston’s skyline.
Now, what are you waiting for? Before you go off to have an adventurous day in Cambridge, come stop by Sugar & Spice in the heart of Porter Square to enjoy an authentic Thai meal on our patio! Not sure what to order? Check out our top suggestions here, or browse our online menu! See you soon!
